No News Is Good News

Gokou was sitting in the kitchen, while Chichi was making breakfast. The little boy from Sataan City was biking down the road. He looked exhausted! He’d had to bike over 20 miles to deliver a stupid newspaper to the Son household. Gokou spotted him out the window and went to the doorway to greet him.

“Hi there!” Gokou yelled, and waved to the little boy.

“YOU MORON!” The little boy yelled back, whipping the paper at Gokou and nailing him in the face. The boy spun in a 3-60 and biked back towards the city.

“Hmm.” Gokou, unaffected by the impact of the paper, bent over and picked it up. He opened it and read the front headline.

“A BOMB THREAT?? AAAHHHHH!!!” Gokou dropped to the ground and covered his head with his hands, as if to save himself. After staying like that for 10 minutes, he sat up and looked at the headline again.

“A bomb threat…in…Pack…is…stan? Pack..ee….stawn….Pakistan! What a strange name…” Gokou mumbled and walked back into the house.

“Chichi, guess what! There’s a bomb threat in Pak-ee-stan. Have you ever heard of it?”

“Gokou, I told you not to get the paper anymore! That poor boy has to bike all the way out here, and the news isn’t even important!” Chichi growled.

“But…Chichi!” Gokou’s bottom lip trembled. After all their boys had moved out, he’d had nothing to do, no one to train. The paper was everything to him. Chichi sighed.

“Fine, Gokou. Keep the paper. Read about places that don’t include us.” she went on, rambling. But Gokou wasn’t listening. He was already reading another article.

“Hey! Look! Gohan’s in the paper!” Gokou grinned and showed the picture of Suupa-Saiya Man to Chichi.

“Ah! MY LITTLE BOY’S FAMOUS!” Chichi grinned and cut the picture out. She taped the picture to the fridge. “Though I don’t approve of the fighting, HE’S FAMOUS!” Gokou grinned and kept reading. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door and Goten barged in.

“Hi Kaasan! Hey Tousan! Breakfast time? Coolness!” He called.

“Hey Goten.” Gokou nodded and smiled at his son. Goten often visited without warning, but they were always glad to see him.

“Oh! Newspaper!” Goten snatched the back page and started reading. “Hey wow. That orange cat that can talk to people is in the paper again!” Gokou looked at him.

“Really??” he asked. Gokou dove over to look at the page with Goten. “Oh wow! That cat’s popular!” Goten nodded,

“They must like the fact that it can talk and that it beats on the dog…I guess.”

“Goten look on the fridge. Your brother was in the paper!” Chichi said, pointing at the picture.

“Cool. …Haha! Hallo, I’m Suupa-Saiya Man! Zoom!” Goten waved his arms and ran around the kitched.

“OH! LOOK CHICHI! HERE’S SOMETHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH US!!” bellowed Gokou.

“AAHH!” frightened, Chichi threw a plate into the air. It smashed on the counter. “GOKOU! THIS HAD BETTER BE GOOD!” snarled Chichi, walking over to see what was there.

“It is! Look, see? The car? Look what it says here…’Made in Japan’. See? Uh…Chichi…What are you doing? Why are you picking up that frying pan, are you cooking some more? Chichi? Is something wrong? Why is your face red? Are you hot? YIPES!” Gokou fell out of his chair to avoid the swinging frying pan.

“Whoo, looks like mom’s in a bad mood….I’m gonna be going now….I’m gonna take the orange cat with me BYE!” Goten yelled, taking off out the door and shooting into the air.

Gokou started apologizing, and fearing for his head, ran out the door. Still holding the paper. He flew around until he found Piccolo, who was meditating under a tree.

“Hey Piccolo! Look, a newspaper! Do you get the newspaper Piccolo? Oh that’s right, you don’t live anywhere. Anyway, check it out, this guy claims he saw aliens! They were little and green! You think they’re someone we’ve met before? Piccolo? Oh, you’re working really hard at meditating aren’t you! Ok then, see ya later!” With that, Gokou took off again. Little did he know, that Piccolo wasn’t really meditating.

“Zzzzz…Zzzzzz….Zzzzzz…”

Gokou then flew to Muten Roshi’s island, and found him on his lawnchair, looking at his “magazines”.

“Hey there Master Roshi! Looking at some magazines? How about looking at the newspaper here. Look see, it says, “Protesters fight to close a porn distributor” Wow! That’s pretty cool, huh Master Roshi? Master Roshi? Hmmm. He fell asleep. Ok, see ya later then!” With that, Gokou took off, unaware that Roshi had passed out due to shock. “Gee, nobody except me and Goten care about the news! Well, there’s still a whole beee-autiful day left!” And ss if on cue, a rainstorm blew up and destroyed Gokou’s newspaper.

“….Aww. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow’s paper!” And with that, a sad, but hopeful Gokou flew back to his home, anxiously awaiting the next day, and more news about the world.
